The Members Club

Please note: Due to David's recent passing, the ongoing future of the Members Club is not yet clear. There is certainly years' worth of material available right now but we will probably change the manner in which people access that information. So while I wouldn't worry about getting your money's worth if you sign up today, if you're a beginning student you may want to wait a while before signing up for extended access - it will probably become part of the yearly access to the Forum (for a fee not more than you'd pay right now).

Thanks - David "Markham" Haynes

For a $100 you may join The Members Club. The Basic Course will make you into a fine "songsmith", that's for sure, but here's a place to keep learning more about the finer details of play and learning and music in general.

Song arrangements of thirty standards, done up in the same form you encounter tunes in "dot" notation in the original course, are now available for download. Acccompanying each of these PDF files are mp3 sound files where Sudnow plays the tunes and discusses their harmony. Enough great tunes to work on for some while! And there are currently hour-long discussions each of six other long time standards, where Sudnow gets into all sorts of details about more advanced aspects of song play. There too are available for download by members of The Members Club.

PianoSide Chats are posted, as mp3 sound files. There are ten of these chats, each over thirty minutes long, in The Members Club. For your downloading pleasure. Here you get a virtual private lesson. Each Chat takes up some different relevant topic of song play, and for thirty minutes you get his famously relaxed, engaging and really instructive advice on how to deal with all aspects of song playing: creating more rhythm, playing the blues, improvising, using more advanced harmonic substitutions, learning most effectively, technical fine tuning, and much more. Directed both toward the student who's just starting out. and one who's been working with the program for a while, these PianoSide Chats are spontaneous, clear, interesting and worthwhile adjuncts to the basic course.

Essays have been published on aspects of advanced play: the use of polychords, improvisation on 2/5/1 sequences, stride piano, reharmonization, use of various scales, fill-ins, and more.
