Long-time students may have noticed that memberships on the new site ‘expire’ after a year and can be extended for (at this time) $7.00 per year or $10.00 per year (Advanced Membership). If the membership actually does expire it can be renewed for (at this time) $25.00.
There are a couple reasons for this approach. First, frankly, is to generate a little extra revenue. There are ongoing costs associated with the web site and we’re more a ‘labor of love’ than a ‘big business’.
But our main goal is to help people learn to play the piano and thus the fees create a small incentive. As noted in the product description, if you demonstrate that you’ve mastered ‘Misty’ (which means just getting all the way through the song) we’ll waive the yearly renewal. And if you demonstrate that you’ve created your own voicing of a different song (not a dot song) we’ll waive the Advanced renewal fee.
So all you really have to do is be successful and you’ll continue to enjoy access to the web site for free. (But we won’t stop you if you want to continue paying yearly renewals 🙂 )
